NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
A memory of Mediterranean nature, this Museum is the first municipal museum created by the City of Nice open to the public in 1846. At the time it is considered one of the most interesting in Europe thanks to the collections of two international: the naturalist Jean-Baptiste Vérany and the scientist Jean-Baptiste Barla. The first is an important series of birds, molluscs, minerals and fossils in the region. The second provides an original collection focused on fish, flowering plants and mainly on mushrooms of the beautiful country. Today, over one million geological, zoos and botanical specimens are presented to the public. Periodically, some temporary out-of-situ exhibitions are planned at the Phoenix Park, the Louis-Nucéra library or the Maison de la Nature du Grande Corniche. The museum will be in several délocalisé years to gain space in a future named science and nature in Phoenix park. With over one million pieces of collection, the Natural History Museum in Nice is ranked eighth national collection.
