From the Théâtre National de Nice to the sea, a stroll punctuated by plant spaces takes you on an intercontinental botanical journey.
This magnificent 12-hectare urban space was inaugurated in 2013, inviting all passers-by to relax and stroll. Also known as the "coulée verte", the park follows the course of the Paillon, which is covered by a tunnel to offer the people of Nice a nest of greenery. Landscape architect Michel Péna brilliantly undertook the design of this green space. The walk is divided into two sections:
To the north is a botanical garden featuring a variety of plants and flowers, many of which are endemic to the Mediterranean region, such as the carnations planted by the thousands. The garden is also a botanical voyage, with plants from every continent. Also on the same side, on the site of Jacques Médecin's former forum, is a giant 3,000m2 water mirror equipped with 128 water jets, now a playground for young and old alike. The construction of this water space was designed to accommodate sound and light shows with scenic effects.
A little further along, on the other side of Place Masséna, a plateau des brumes extends the stroll. This 1,400m2 natural basalt and limestone paving is equipped with 960 misting devices, creating a magical mist of water perfect for hot summer days. Continuing to the end of the promenade, near the sea, you'll discover the magnificent Kiosque à Musique built in 1868, fully restored to host concerts by the municipal orchestra, which you can hear free of charge on Sundays. To the south, a large esplanade lined with trees and fountains is the perfect place to stroll, picnic, listen to an open-air concert or simply relax on the fresh green grass. Children will also find plenty to do in this green setting, thanks to a park specially designed for them on the theme of marine bestiary. For toddlers, a beautiful 3-metre-long turtle with eggs will enable under-3s to climb on it and slide down a slide, while parents sit on a wave-shaped bench. For older children, two dolphins and a manta ray form a play area with slides and nets. Finally, the bestiary ends with the star, a 30-metre-long whale also equipped with a multitude of games on springs, ropes, rings... For the more adventurous, they can slip into its belly like Pinocchio.
A veritable urban gem in Nice, the coulée verte is a unique experience for visitors to relax and unwind.
