Promenade des Anglais, the symbol of Nice in the world, a lively place, ideal for inline skaters and cyclists

The Promenade des Anglais is THE symbol of Nice in the world. It stretches along 7 km of waterfront, following the perfect curve of the Baie des Anges.

As early as the 19th century, the English made the Nice coastline their winter resort, giving their name to the promenade on the initiative of Reverend Lewis Way and giving Nice its cosmopolitan and aesthetic identity between sea and palm trees. In the early 20th century, the original seaside villas were demolished and replaced by the majestic buildings that can still be admired today, such as the Negresco and the Palais de la Méditerranée. The Casino Jetée, which gave a special aura to the Promenade, did not meet the same fate: stripped by the Germans for its copper and iron during the Second World War, it was dynamited on May 26, 1944.

Over the decades, the Promenade des Anglais has become a favorite destination for sun-seeking tourists and strolling locals alike, hosting numerous events (carnival, marathon, etc.) and attracting millions of visitors every year. Bereft by the terrible attack on July 14, 2016, it was redeveloped to offer more space for greenery. Today, more lively and animated than ever, it's a meeting place for rollerbladers, runners, cyclists and walkers. Its "blue chairs" and seaward-facing pergolas are just as conducive to idleness and contemplation as ever. A truly mythical place.
