L’ÉGLISE SAINTE PÉTRONILLE
A listed church dating from the 12th century and fortified from 1760, it dominates the village.
Dating from the 12th century, it dominates the village. The original building was dedicated to Saint Arige. It took the name Sainte-Pétronille when a new church was built on the opposite bank of the Estéron. Sainte-Pétronille was fortified in 1760 (Treaty of Turin), its dominant position enabling it to watch over the border towards the Sardinian side, on the left bank. The church has retained the air of a fortified castle, but its two-bay bell tower reveals its true function.
