LA COLOMBE D’OR * * *
Warm and cosy hotel with a shaded terrace that leads to the garden and the pool.
If you just pass in front of it, you will see nothing but the monumental wooden gate with its patina of time. You have to dare to push it to enter this mythical place, which is a real museum. Many painters and sculptors have lived here or stopped here to leave their mark and enrich the private art collection: Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Braque, Léger, Calder, Dufy, Signac... Artists of cinema, music-hall, writers succeeded them. The shaded terrace leads to the garden and the swimming pool; the interior is warm and cosy, the intimacy of the guests is protected from view. It is a unique address, outside the ramparts, populated by spirits, which operates a timeless magic.

The waitstaff displayed a condescending demeanor, which dampened our dining experience. The desserts were a major disappointment, falling far below our expectations. Additionally, the lukewarm tea was far from satisfactory.
In a rather unusual gesture, instead of the promised complimentary dessert for my mom's birthday, the restaurant took a guest's dessert order, added a candle, and presented it as a gift. This departure from the expected birthday treat was somewhat perplexing and didn't align with the special occasion we had hoped to celebrate.
Despite the restaurant's captivating atmosphere, the overall experience was marred by service issues and a deviation from the anticipated birthday celebration. We had hoped for more on this special occasion.
