MEDIEVAL CASTLE AND GARDEN
In the Middle Ages, these small gardens with multiple vocations are cultivated at the foot of the walls. There are a multitude of small squares, each of which has a very precise function: Vegetable garden, herbal garden, aromatic plants… Under symbolic names, the garden today discovered the virtues, vices, smells, taste, princess and the dye plants that were used at the time to dye fabrics. The castle is perched 800 m on a rocky outcrop: former property of the County of Ventimiglia, it was sold with the entire region to the Count of Provence and then destroyed partly by order of Louis XIV in 1691. Since 1993, the site hosts a series of excavations whose updated objects are presented at the Espace Culture et Traditions located Place de l'Église (open every day except Monday from 10 a. m. to 13 p. m. and from 14 p. m. to 17 p. m.).
