The source of the Roya, a torrential river that flows for just over 37 km in France.
The Roya is a river with a torrential flow that originates halfway up the Col de Tende, at an altitude of 1,300 m. It flows for a little over 37 km in France, making it one of the shortest rivers in the hexagon. After a course of about 15 km in Italian territory, it flows into the Mediterranean at Ventimiglia. In these steep gorges, the Roya is a majestic torrent. Then it widens, a limestone serves as a bed for the river and the apparent strata lets us imagine a gigantic millefeuille. Its course is cut off by water intakes supplying hydroelectric plants.
