CASTLE OF MONTGILBERT
Military castle with enclosure delimiting the lower courtyard and upper enclosure protecting the main building. Animations. Workcamps.
Around 1200, the seigneury of Montgilbert belonged to the de Saint-Gérand family, who appeared to be building or at least remodeling an earlier fortress. This military construction has an outer wall delimiting the lower courtyard and an upper wall protecting the main building and outbuildings. At the end of the 13th century, it passed to the Aycelin de Montaigu-Listenois family, then, through marriage, to the Vienne family. Sold as national property, it was abandoned and ruined. Volunteer workcamps are regularly organized to maintain and enhance the site.
