ST. VERAN'S CHURCH

It is the oldest church in the valley in its external state. It is dedicated to Saint Véran, bishop of Cavaillon (Vaucluse), famous evangelizer of the region in the 6th century. However, the origins of the edifice are still the subject of discussion among historians. A primitive church would have been built between the 9th and 11th centuries. Then it would have been altered over the centuries, particularly after an earthquake in the 15th century. If the portal leaves, the large Italian-style porch and the style of the capitals date from the 16th century, the vaults of the central nave are from the following century. It was in fact in the 17th century that the building was redesigned in stucco in the baroque taste of the time. The square bell tower is surmounted by a spire. Inside: a large painting, The Annunciation, dating from the 16th century, and a wooden Passion altarpiece from the 17th century. The church was classified as a Historic Monument in 1963.
