This is a world first. La Méridionale has launched Le Piana, a ferry linking Marseilles to Corsica, with a new filter that not only captures 99% of sulfur oxides as required by regulations, but also eliminates 99.9% of fine and ultrafine particles, the most harmful to human health. Already a pioneer in environmental matters by connecting all its ships electrically to the quayside in Marseille, La Méridionale is going even further to offer zero particle journeys. It is also working to drastically reduce its nitrogen oxide emissions and hopes to inspire large cruise lines, which have recently drawn the ire of local residents in the port of Marseilles. More information on the La Méridionale website.
