The city has seen many sieges and adventures, and is surrounded by walls pierced by gates and ancient houses.
Visit of the medieval city and of Saint-Sauveur. Erected as a châtellenie in the 12th century by the Bourbons, it was founded around the 10th century, when the inhabitants of the old Gallo-Roman oppidum nearby (Châteloy) left the site to settle at the foot of a rocky spur and its fort overlooking the Aumance. The city became one of the main strongholds of the duchy and experienced many sieges and adventures. The old town is still partially surrounded by walls pierced with doors and has preserved old houses from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
