L’ALPIN CHEZ LUI – LES JOUETS DU QUEYRAS
The cooperative production company "L'Alpin chez Lui" was founded in 1920. The purpose of this society was, at a time when winter tourism did not yet exist, to curb the exodus of young people to the city. The means used were the manufacture by local residents of wooden toys that would be grouped into a cooperative, in order to be better sold. In 1940, craftsmen built the present exhibition chalet themselves. The competition of plastic after the last war was terrible, but the co-op failed to close in the late sixties. Finally, thanks to a big effort to modernise, the company has restarted and is now doing well, highlighting the famous "made in France" by craftsmen. It exhibits and sells many hand-decorated wooden toys such as music boxes, furniture for dolls, puzzles and logic games, animals, etc.
