PUMPER BOOM
With a high of 123,50 metres, close to 14 million m 3 of materials and an area of 2800 hectares, Serre-Ponçon is Europe's largest dam. Commonly known as the "Château d'eau de la Provence", it is an essential asset in agriculture, development and life in the region. The water, stored in the lake, is turbinée by the Central plant in the heart of the book, before being rejected in the compensation pool formed by the Espinasses dam. The function of the latter is to drift the water into the EDF Canal of the Durance, feeding 15 plants to the Berre pond. The dam today has three missions: produce 720 million kwh of electricity, regulate the waters of Durance, and finally irrigate the bass Durance correctly. Over time, the dam has become a very important tourist hub.
