SAN MARTIN CHURCH
This church is part of the Route painted churches route, it is particularly interesting with its capitals representing musicians and acrobats in scenes of everyday life. Only that of the Annunciation evokes the spiritual. The angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will be the mother of the Savior, while other characters stand under arcades. You will also see remarkable murals commissioned around 1430 by Catherine d'Hériçon, married to Philippe d'Aubigny, seigneur of Jenzat. They represent the cycle of the Passion of Christ, which is held in thirteen stages and begins on the north side by the entrance of Christ to Jerusalem, continues through the Supper, the treason of Judas, on the south side, his arrest in the garden of Olive Trees, the Crucifixion, the Invocation, the Tomb and, finally, the Resurrection. Besides, the cycle of the martyrdom of St Catherine begins with his mystical marriage, followed by the encounter with the emperor, torture in the wheel, flogging and décollation. The last fresco is the plague of plague, a unique ensemble, representing the plague of 1348 with a desire for realism. Surprising!
