ÉGLISE SAINTE-MARIE
Church in the middle of the Bourbonnaise Mountain, with an interior decoration of Art Deco style and murals.
In the middle of the Bourbonnaise Mountain, this small church was built from 1836 and enlarged several times until 1900. Its particularity: it is endowed with an interior decoration of Art Deco style and with wall paintings from the floor to the ceiling, realized by the painter Despalles, native of Cusset. These paintings, ordered by the village priest Claude Mercier, were intended to instruct the parishioners and to incite them to piety. Today it is quite rare to visit a church painted in this way; the one in La Chabanne is certainly worth a visit.
