SAINT-VERAN OBSERVATORY
Observatory on the summit of Pic de Châteaurenant, Europe's highest observatory, a magical place to observe the sky
It's almost fitting that Europe's highest commune should have Europe's highest observatory, on one of the village's highest points, at almost 3,000 m altitude. From the summit of the Château-Renard peak, the view to the naked eye is already splendid. But the exceptional clarity of the sky and the state-of-the-art telescopes installed by man make this site one of the 5 best spots in the world for observing the sky. Please note that the ascent from the village is on foot (except for missions).
