ALEXANDER 1ST GARDEN
A garden that lets you forget the city and the noise and relax on the shady lawns, discovering its little treasures.
Still called "Jardin de la Ville" by locals, the Alexandre1er garden has just undergone a radical transformation. And it must be acknowledged that this one is particularly successful, living up to the expectation and duration of the work, which began in 2015 with the demolition of the Chalucet Hospital. The garden is now the heart of the neighborhood that has taken its place, dubbed the "district of Creativity and Knowledge". In addition to residents and tourists, its redesigned paths now welcome students from the newly installed schools: the École Supérieure d'Art et de Design TPM (ESADTPM), the Kedge Business School, and the Camondo Méditerranée school of architecture and interior design. You will also find a well-stocked media library, a business incubator and housing. This green lung of 20,000 m² (5,000 more than before) has more than 300 aquatic plants, 350 trees of different species (including an orange grove) and 5,000 Mediterranean species. Take the time to discover its little treasures, including its completely restored kiosk (formerly on the Place d'Armes) or the fish pond. Although lined with imposing staircases, it is completely adapted to people with reduced mobility. A beautiful and very pleasant walk, which will become one of the must-sees in Toulon. For the more curious, explanatory totems have been installed, as well as QR codes for an enhanced visit.
