The Departmental Archives of Vaucluse, like those of all French departments, were established in 1796. Since that date, they have been responsible for administrative, ecclesiastical and judicial documents from the institutions that existed prior to the 1789 revolution on the Vaucluse territory. The scrolls, registers, plans and microfilms represent… 20 km of archives distributed on 4 000 m 2 of surface, in the heart of the Palais des Papes. A charter and paper written from 898 and 1270, as well as a small piece of the collapsed part of the Avignon Bridge and thousands of scrolls are preserved. Missing the archives of the Popes of Avignon, transferred from Rome. The site welcomes the visits of the kindergarten classes to the IUFM and the general public (personalized reception by appointment). Throughout the year, departmental archives staff organize exhibitions like the one most recently "Ink Blood. The crime in Vaucluse at the time of the guillotine», with old police and gendarmerie reports, press articles, posters and laws.
