This district of Avignon is an ancient commune of the Vaucluse region, home to the church of Notre-Dame de Bon Repos.

The name of Montfavet comes from Cardinal Bertrand de Montfavès who was born in Castelnau-Montratier around 1270 and died in Avignon in 1342. It is in the 14th century that Montfavet begins its development during the period of the popes of Avignon. It is an ancient commune of Vaucluse founded in 1612 around its fortified church built in 1343. Attached to Avignon in 1795, Montfavet is currently one of the nine districts of Avignon which has a village core located 5 km from the historic center of Avignon, home to the church of Notre-Dame de Bon Repos of the 14th century.
