CHAPELLE SAINT-SIDOINE
A small church not to be missed, just to see its trompe-l'oeil paintings of long, antique-style columns from the century
In 1684, judged to be too small, it was replaced by the current building, which borders the void. At this time, belonging to the Papal States, the seigneury of Brantes passed into the hands of several large families. And although the village now has just 87 inhabitants, up until the 19th century there were almost 400. What remains of this medieval period is the castle below the village. The south-facing gateway is topped by a statue of Notre-Dame des Victoires and an elegant square bell tower. With its trompe-l'œil paintings of long, antique-style columns from the 19th century (restored in 1989), the little church of Saint-Sidoine is a must-see.
