ROMAN ARC
Superb arch erected to commemorate the victory of Rome over the Barbarians, the only vestige of the Roman period in Carpentras.
Leaning against the northern flank of the Saint-Siffrein Cathedral, is the only vestige of the Roman period, the Roman arch. The Comtadine city, before falling to the popes, passed successively into the hands of the Celts - under the name of Carpentorate Meminorum and the Romans - Forum Neronis. From these distant times, there remains a building from the 1st century AD, erected to commemorate Rome's victory over the Barbarians. Perforated by a single arch, it offers a magnificent carved detail: two prisoners chained to a trophy. The Roman arch can be seen freely.
