THE COMTADIN-DUPLESSIS MUSEUM
The municipal collections of paintings gather Provençal original of the Saint-Siffrein cathedral, Rencontre à la Porte dorée, masterpiece of Nicolas Dipre; several paintings of Etienne and Pierre Parrocel including Immaculate Conception; twelve paintings of Joseph Siffrède Duplessis including seven portraits; paintings of foreign schools (Savery, Snyders, Van Herp...); a series of portraits of those from dom Malachie of Inguimbert, including the famous portrait of the Rancé abbot, attributed to Rigaud and souvenir of pope Clément XII to the bishop of Carpentras. Finally, paintings of the second half of the 18th century and the 9th century: Joseph Vernet, Turpin de Crissé, Joseph Bidauld... On the ground floor, there are popular traditions: seals, coins and medals evoke the history of Comtat Venaissin under the aegis of Saint-Siège. But also comtadines headdress, Provençal crèches, bird calls, weights and measures as well as cowbells for the Comtat customs; ex-voto dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Santé, and donation of the Mont-de-piété witness of religious fervour. A very complete museum to learn more about Carpentras of the past centuries.
