THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THE HÔTEL-DIEU
On the outskirts of the old ramparts, which only remain the door of Avignon, the th-century chapel, and the entrance body of the former hotel-Dieu hospital, houses a rich museum of the personal collections of a family of patrons at the end of the nineteenth century: the Jouve family. The city's past is perched on two floors, in a succession of showcases, highlighting regional prehistory, archaeology and local history. From the first prehistoric installations of the West Luberon and the hill Saint-Jacques, which overlooks Cavaillon until modern times, the journey walks through the history of the city. From its origins, an exceptional set of Gallo-Greek inscriptions testifies to the privileged links between the nascent city of the Greek city of Marseille, while the head of Agrippine symbolizes the integration of Cavaillon in the heart of the Roman Empire. Temporary exhibitions and large screen projections around the history of the Jews in ancient Comtat Venaissin enrich this course. It also mentions the old hospice with a reconstruction of a hospital pharmacy (mortar, ointment pots…). The chapel itself hosts temporary exhibitions. There are also films on regional heritage and the history of Comtadins Jews.
