Discover the beautiful fortifications built as early as the century, using stone from the Saint-Georges quarries in Courthézon.
The ramparts are striking for their imposing mass. In the 12thcentury , these fortifications were built of stone from the Saint-Georges quarries. Three of the four gates give access to the ancient city. The most beautiful, the Belle Croix gate, with its pointed arch and drawbridge, retains its crown of machicolations intact. Below, the river Seille, dug out in 1289, served as a moat for the ramparts. The clock tower (17th century) is topped by an elegant listed bell tower.
