THE FEUDAL CASTLE AND ITS RAMPARTS

The feudal castle with its ramparts, built in the Middle Ages, is a real pillar of time located in Gigondas.
Built in the Middle Ages, the ramparts were 550 m long, 5 to 8 m high and 1.50 m wide. As for the castle, it has known a thousand lives... It was the stronghold of the Princes of Orange, the seat of the resistance of the Catholics defeated by the Calvinists in 1563, a hospice in 1678, a school... A real pillar of time! And if today it is a cultural place where one discovers the Sculpture Walk, it is also here that the festival of the Lyric Evenings takes place in August.
