THE MILL CIRCUIT
Grillon's watermills, an ancient heritage to discover on a tour along the Lez and its streams.
It's a little-known fact, but Grillon is home to a real heritage: its watermills. From the Middle Ages to the 20th century, water was the source of Grillon's great prosperity. In fact, Grillon has a vast hydraulic network comprising the river Lez, streams, numerous springs including the Grande Fontaine, its mill canal (dug by the Grillonnais in 1350), later known as the canal des usiniers, the canal de dérivation du Lez (1728), and the Roubine, which brings water from Bariol. Of the nine mills, three paddlewheels and one turbine remain.
