Zigeunerfels is a small semi-troglodytic castle built in the century by a branch of the Wasigenstein family
Zigeunerfels, which translates from Alsatian as "Gypsy Rock", is a small semi-troglodytic castle built in the 14th century by a branch of the Wasigenstein family. Was it an advanced defensive post, or did it help to place the members of this large family? No one knows. Today, all that remains of the edifice is a staircase cut into the rock and the remains of walls on the platform. The castle is difficult to access, so bring good shoes and be careful!
