THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND PALAEONTOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Visit Mormoiron's archaeological and paleontological museum, where the history of gypsum is richly documented.
The museum has 3 rooms in restored medieval cellars. The entire history of Mormoiron gypsum is described and richly documented. The exhibits (flints, pottery, fossils), from the Middle Paleolithic to the Gallo-Roman period, are small marvels. Among them is the skeleton of a 38-million-year-old fossil mammal (Paleotherium), unearthed in one of Mormoiron's quarries in 1904. It is one of the few complete skeletons ever found.
