A church that has had an eventful history in Orange, devastated by the wars of religion and restored in the century.
This church has had an eventful history. However, it is dedicated to Saint Florent, bishop of Orange, who was venerated as the city's protector. Deported to Italy in 509 by the Ostrogoths, he is said to have performed numerous miracles. His relics are shared between Orange and Florentiola (Italy). The first church was repeatedly ransacked before being abandoned at the end of the 15th century in favor of a safer location. This time, however, the building was devastated by the Wars of Religion. It was not restored until the 16th century.
