LA PLACE CLEMENCEAU
The Place Clemenceau, located not far from the Notre-Dame church in Orange, where the heart of the city is in full swing
This is where the heart of the city beats. In 1310, the Prince of Orange, wishing to see the inhabitants meet and enjoy themselves in the same place, had the new square laid out not far from the Notre-Dame church. In the Middle Ages, the market was already held there on Thursday mornings. In medieval times, the town council did not hesitate either to come and occupy the place, to discuss politics and important affairs, surrounded by the inhabitants. There were no secret ballots and no show of hands, because voting was done by acclamation. On this same square was the straitjacket.
