LA PORTE NOTRE-DAME ET SA CHAPELLE
Built in the century, the gate was modified in 1548 with the addition of loopholes and gun ports, and now boasts 2 crenellated towers
The Porte Notre-Dame still stands today, with its two enormous crenellated towers. Built in the 14th century, the gate was modified in 1548 with the addition of loopholes and gunports. The arch of the bridge over the Nesque replaced the drawbridge in the 17th century.
A chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary protected each of the four gates that defended the town. The Notre-Dame chapel was also the meeting place of the Pernes-les-Fontaines masons' brotherhood, charged with defending the interests of the profession.
