THE SAINT-PIERRE MILL

A mill with a wheel, built in 1859, known as "le moulin de Carpentras", bears witness to Les Taillades' industrial past.
It's a mill with a paddle wheel (the largest in Vaucluse) that was built at the same time as the canal linking Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to Carpentras, in 1859. It's also known as the Carpentras mill. It's a fine example of Les Taillades' industrial past. First used to grind madder. The roots of this plant made the red dye used for Napoleon's soldiers' uniforms. It later became a hydroelectric plant, then a flour mill until 1970. Bought by the commune in 1981, it has now been restored.
