NOTRE-DAME-DE-NAZARETH CATHEDRAL
Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral, with a nave lit by windows pierced at the base of the cradles and an octagonal cupola
Notre-Dame de Nazareth (11th and 12th centuries) is a fine example of Provençal Romanesque architecture. An excavation left open at its chevet shows that it was built on the remains of an early Christian building. Inside, this borrowing from antiquity is reinforced by the white or grey tones of the marble columns and altar. Light penetrates the building through windows pierced at the base of the cradles. The beautiful octagonal dome was built during the 12th century.
