THE CHAPEL OF THE WHITE PENITENTS
A brotherhood of White Penitents, established by pious men in 1509 in Valréas
In 1509, pious men established in the town of Valréas a brotherhood of White Penitents, whose appearance later than that of the Black Penitents did not prevent the pursuit of similar objectives: to help the poor and the sick, to care for the dead... Under the aegis of Monsignor de Paganotis, the Penitents acquired the Cordelier Fathers, the former chapel of the Black Penitents, but settled in the present chapel, to the north of the parish church.
