Close to the primitive city of Valréas: the château Ripert, the château Dauphin and the château Saint-Jean. The last two were destroyed in the 15th and 19th centuries. Some ruins of the Ripert castle remain, including the keep called the Ripert tower or "Tour de l'Horloge". This square tower is 17 m high and 7 m wide and has three floors and a terrace. In 1548 a clock and its bell, the "charansole", were installed there. The feudal fortress was built in the 12th century.
