Church dating from the second half of the century and bearing the Republican motto, an interesting place to visit.
This church, rebuilt on the site of a 13th-century church, dates from the second half of the 19th century, making it a fairly classical architectural monument. But it has a distinctive feature that speaks volumes about our country's history. On either side of the portal, in huge letters, is inscribed: "République française" (French Republic) and under the tympanum: "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity). This may come as a surprise on a religious building, but it's a very republican motto. The inscription was approved by the Town Council on November 15, 1891. To understand this, it's important to remember that, following the Paris Commune in 1871 and the suppression of religious congregations in 1880, the country's secularism slowly slipped into the pure and simple separation of Church and State in 1905. That explains it!
