CHÂTEAU DE PONCIN
Castle with an English garden, the initial one dating from 1180 at the time of Humbert II de Thoire, another one in 1290, then in the XVIIth century.
It was Humbert II de Thoire who built the original castle in 1180. In 1290, Humbert IV de Thoire-Villars built a new square fortress, 64 m on each side, with 4 towers including a keep. In the 17th century, the Marquis Joseph de la Poype Saint-Julien decided to build a new castle next to the old one. Then, in 1752, the castle is sold. It was ransacked during the Revolution and remained abandoned until it was bought by the mayor of Poncin in 1831. A beautiful English garden was then created. It is now a private property.
