JACQUEMART
A clock tower steeped in history, built between 1451 and 1455 in Moulins, symbolizing the freedoms acquired in the Middle Ages.
The clock tower is the symbol of the freedoms acquired in the Middle Ages. It was built between 1451 and 1455, thanks to a special tax levied by Duke John II. After a violent fire in 1655, it was restored the following year, and at its top an octagonal lantern was installed, housing four automatons, the Jacquemart family, with oak and chestnut bodies and covered with lead. After a new fire in 1946, they are made of copper sheet. Jacques in grenadier uniform and Jacquette strike the hours. The children, Jacquelin and Jacqueline, strike the quarter hours.
