The foirail de la Chambière is France's leading cattle market. Every Tuesday, some 2,500 cattle are traded. It's a private market where negotiations are highly ritualized. Arrivals take place in the morning. Sales only take place in the afternoon. They start at 1:45 pm with calves. This is followed by grazers, animals destined for slaughter, and then heifers for breeding. The first traders are on site by 5 or 6am, and the last leave around 7pm. A great day out in the heart of the countryside, where the public is always welcome.
