Saint-Genis-Pouilly is a French commune in the Ain department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It lies in the Pays de Gex, on the Swiss border, and is part of the Geneva cross-border conurbation. The town is home to a large part of the particle physics facilities of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Saint-Genis-Pouilly's origins date back to Gallo-Roman times, with the Roman colony Colonia Iulia Equestris founded by Julius Caesar.
