MAISON SAINT-BRUNO - CHARTREUSE DE SÉLIGNAC
The Chartreuse de Sélignac was founded in 1202 by Carthusian monks.
Founded in 1202 by Carthusian monks, the Chartreuse de Sélignac has its history written in stone. Surrounded by 180 hectares of forest, the monks lived there until 2001. Since then, it has been taken over by laypeople, who continue to welcome visitors in the spirit of Saint Bruno, to experience a time of deserted prayer. The great silence and solitude of the Chartreuse combine to give way to meditation. The commitment is a demanding one, requiring a minimum stay of three days, leaving telephone and computer behind. The retreatants spend their time in a Carthusian cell. If they wish, they can be accompanied in their approach to God. They form a community with those present, and can share in the services as well as the various activities: garden maintenance, housework... Bear in mind that Sélignac gets very cold in winter. The cells are well heated, but the temperature in the corridors and church is close to zero.
