THE CHAPEL OF PRINCES
Flamboyant Gothic chapel built in 1487, characterized by Renaissance and Mannerist decoration.
The Princes' Chapel, built in 1487 in the flamboyant Gothic style, was decorated much later, in 1606. Its Renaissance and Mannerist decoration is characteristic of the chapel. Mannerism, an artistic movement that is not very widespread, gives the Princes' Chapel its originality and its particularity. Note the white marble bas-relief from the 16th century representing the Assumption of the Virgin with, as was common at the time, the portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Ventadour, owners of the castle (late 16th and early 17th century).
