MILLS AND MILLS OF THE GLUEYRE
Mills for twisting silk threads after spinning and before weaving.
The Moulinage de la Neuve in Marcols-les-Eaux is a unique site in the Ardèche, bearing witness to the rich history of Lyon's silk industry. Built in 1860 by the famous Giraud family millers, this former workshop processed silk for Lyon's leading silk manufacturers until 1967. Reopened in 2002 by the Moulins et Moulinages de la Glueyre association, it offers a plunge back into the 19th century, with its ancient machines in operation. A tribute is also paid to Marie Giraud, the Ardèche's first mayor, for her role during the Second World War.
