VENTADOUR CASTLE
Castle with a square keep, the inhabitants used it as a stone quarry, houses a museum with relief model.
The building stands on the Rolandy rock, a 70-metre-high peak overlooking the confluence of the Ardèche and Fontaulière rivers. Its name comes from the last family to inhabit it, the powerful Dukes of Ventadour. Built in the 12th century, it features a very high square keep. Partly dismantled during the French Revolution, a preservation association has been restoring it since 1968. This titanic task is far from complete.
