TERRA CABRA : BETWEEN GOAT AND PICODON
Space of discovery and relaxation on the goats and the picodon allowing to visit the farms and to make a tasting.
About fifteen farm producers and ripeners were involved in the creation of this space of discovery and relaxation around the exhibition "Between goat and picodon"... The Ardèche already had its chestnut museum, but the goat museum was missing... Inaugurated in the heart of the village of Planzolles, this one is dedicated to the goat industry and invites you to discover the backstage of a goat farm: the feeding of the goats, the milking, the elaboration of a cheese, the dressing room... The producers reveal you the secrets which give all its typicity to the famous picodon. Installed above the Peytot maturing workshop, which groups together fifteen producers from the appellation, Terra Cabra is informative, but also educational. Children can do some manipulations, watch a film, touch, smell, play and answer questions. How many litres of milk does a goat produce each day? How many cheese bowls are needed to mould 10 litres of milk? How long does goat's cheese have to be matured to be called Picodon? How many goat cheeses have PDO status in France? You should know that 800,000 cheeses pass through the Planzolles maturing workshop every year. At the end of the tour: tasting of tommes at different stages of maturation. And of course, you can buy cheese from the workshop's shop as well as a selection of other regional products.
