THE FORMER CONVENT OF THE RECOLLETS
The old Couvent convent belongs to the history of the city of Privas. It all started with a castle. In 1599. Jacques de Chambaud, huguenot captain, bought Diane de Poitiers's grandson from Poitiers. On the ruins of a th century Fortin, he built a castle. Completed in 1620, but in the heart of a love rivalry between Catholics and Protestants, "the war of lovers", it will be completely destroyed by the Privadois in 1621. After the siege of Privas, Les settled in 1644. In the Revolution, the convent became the seat of the revolutionary court and then a religious order installed a college of boys who became secular and then mixed (ancestor of Bernard de Ventadour College and Vincent d'Indy lyceum). At present, it hosts the house of associations, the municipal music school, as well as the headquarters of the Community of Communes - Rhône and Valleys.
