THE HOUSE OF THE CHESTNUT TREE
In the heart of the village of Saint-Pierreville, La Maison du Châtaigner introduces visitors to this Ardèche specialty.
Chestnuts are celebrated throughout the Ardèche region, where they are a staple foodstuff and the main source of income for many farmers. Dozens of varieties are grown throughout the region, depending on altitude, climate and cultural context. In Saint-Pierreville, it's the combale, a particularly tasty variety, that's predominantly grown. The Maison du Châtaigner exhibits archive images and traditional objects, as well as some very interesting sound documents on the cultivation of the king fruit.
