CASTLE-MUSEUM OF SUNFLOWER
Tournon Castle overlooks the city and houses a museum with temporary exhibitions, concerts and events.
The castle of Tournon, which majestically overlooks the city, is listed as a historical monument. It dates mainly from the 15th and 16th centuries and since 1927 has housed a museum with the "Musée de France" label, hence its common name of castle-museum. It also has the Vignobles et Découvertes label. Imposing and massive, this feudal castle was intended to protect its port located below. The lords of Tournon lived there and ruled the region from the 11th to the 17th century. After the extinction of the family lineage, the castle was abandoned, became a prison, and then suffered during the Revolution. It was saved in 1927, when a major restoration began and work continues to this day. The museum of the castle is very rich and eclectic, dedicated to decorative art, local history, science and technology, history of the Rhone and the barge industry. To better appreciate its volumes, it is advisable to look at its panoramic view from the heights and to step back along the quays, or even by crossing the bridge that spans the Rhône towards the town centre of Tain located opposite. In addition, each year, the museum organizes temporary exhibitions of photographers, painters or visual artists, concerts, museum night, music and theatre festivals, jazz at the Château de Tournon... Also more playful events such as "Enigmas and spells" or Easter egg hunts for children.
