The ruins of Monastier are a picturesque place with a rich religious and architectural past.
A peaceful and picturesque place at the edge of Vagnas. This set of ruins is the remains of a Benedictine priory founded at the end of the 9th or the beginning of the 10th century by Viscount Maubert, on a site that had previously been occupied by a succession of religious buildings. From the Gallo-Roman period onwards, a succession of buildings was built. The priory was abandoned at the beginning of the 14th century, and the buildings were gradually demolished to serve as a quarry. It is known that the oldest houses in Vagnas were built with the stones of the Monastier.
