THE TWISTED BEECHES
A curious alignment of plucked beech trees on Chemin des Sorcières.
Go and meet a curious line of plucked beech trees on the Chemin des Sorcières. The plessage consisted in ridding the hedge of its bushes, the base of the young trees was notched at two thirds of the diameter of the trunk with a serp. The branches were bent in the direction of the hedge and braided together horizontally. The bent hedge was left untouched for one or two years before the shoots were cut again. The multiple cuts each time generate scarring beads giving the tree a tortuous silhouette.
